The design model of the cellar for the transformation of the grapes, produced in this company, has developed on the principles of completion of the process, the concentration of resources, consistency with the real vocation of the territory in a symbiotic ratio product = territory, pointing to creation of an asset that not only satisfies a material need, but also intellectual for its connection with history, tradition and culture of the distribution source.  As part of the territory, today identified by IGT Palizzi, the company Nesci has always produced wine grapes and for this reason, the current owner, thanks to the new generation collaboration, noted the need to give a benefit to production process, with the strengthening of the different stages that identify the wine industry, aimed at achieving the following objectives:

  • Improvement of product quality

  • Optimization of processes and related costs

  • Improvement of safety and quality of work

  • Increase in employment

  • Improvement of environmental impact and conservation of traditional landscapes

  • Obtaining of new products in the best market penetration for quality/price ratio

  • Growth of production capacity and turnover

  • Integration of the project with the appearance of enhancement and development of the territory

The Cellar

For the construction of the winery we proceeded to the restructuring of the old "catoio" dated 1896, on the basis of constraints of conservative restoration imposed by the local superintendent, and simultaneous expansion, integrated in typical rural environment of the surrounding area, with store, tasting room, cellarage and offices. It is therefore proceeded to the realization of a new thermo-conditioned cellar, equipping it with the latest technologies such as fermentation tanks at a controlled temperature to avoid the phenomena "tumultuous" and managed through special government software of the vinification phase followed by malolactic fermentation so to produce high quality wines, including through the refining and aging of wine produced in a special barrel cellar with barrels of Allier oak. The investments were focused on the introduction of technological innovations in processing stages, storage and bottling for the qualitative improvement of production and cost reduction. Particular attention was paid to the use of techniques and investments for energy saving, environmental protection and the improvement of sanitary conditions of the cellar. Nesci Company intends to devote themselves to the production of IGT red, white and rosé wines.  The transformation of the product in an area identified by the IGT brand in a modern and efficient structure will allow, in addition to the increase in bottled wines, greater integration with the activities related to rural development, such as agritourism, enogastronomic tours, cultural activities, etc.

Our History

Nesci family has ancient origins. A native of Messina, had moved during the seventeenth century in Palizzi and then in Reggio, taking care to cultivate and enhance their cultural and territorial heritage. The assets of Nesci family, as of the nineteenth century, was the prerogative of brothers Antonio and Domenico, both unmarried but with three nephews, Francesco, Giuseppe and Domenico, sons of their brother Vincenzo, who died at a young age. The two brothers, by mutual agreement, divided it leaving at first one the care of the goods in Palizzi and Bova and the second - funds in Pellaro, they took care to follow with almost feudal mentality, backward to the advancement and innovation of product and process and focused on the rent of position. After death, Domenico left all his possessions to the two nephews Francesco and Giuseppe while Antonio left everything to his great-nephews Vincenzo and Francesco Saverio, the sons of Domenico.

Francesco, after his death left all his possessions to his nephews Vincenzo and Francesco Saverio. Giuseppe, in his hoary age, gave all his possessions to Francesco Saverio.

Vincenzo, who died in 1924, left all his belongings to his three children Domenico, Antonio and Maria Cristina and Francesco Saverio, who died in 1951, leaving almost everything to his two grandsons.

Domenico, born in 1922, continue to handle the funds of Pellaro, interested mainly at cultivation of bergamots, vineyards and olive groves while Antonio, born in 1924, was interested in the properties of Palizzi, also at cultivation of bergamots, olive groves and vineyards and in addition jasmine, seeds, pastures and woods. Vincenzo, Domenico’s son is a resident of Algeria and President and CEO of Djezzy, first mobile phone operator in the country, Francesco Saverio was a  Professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Reggio Calabria, and Clotilde (now defunct).

Francesco Saverio continued the agricultural business, undertaken with progressive spirit started with the renovation and expansion of existing manufacturing line, especially bergamot, olive trees and vineyards.  And just to enhance the product obtained from vines planted in the late '90s on an area of about 10 hectares, decided to renovate the old "millstone"(place for the squeezing of grapes) created in 1898 by Giuseppe Nesci to realize an advanced plant technologically, that started to work in 2015.

Three children of Francesco Saverio and Adele Sarlo, Anna Maria is a magistrate, Maria Grazia is a student, she is getting a degree in architecture, she already occupies at equipment and arrangement of the new winery, while Alberta, graduating in business administration, is responsible for the technical and commercial management of the winery.
